BBC - Where's Yorkshire?

The BBC has gone totally towards accepting the "regions" of England. Lincolnshire is conveniently cut in two, with the larger part described as being in the Midlands (well, "East Midlands"!) and the northern part is tacked on to Yorkshire! And what of Yorkshire? As with other organisations, Yorkshire is split between North, South and West Yorkshire. The BBC sticks to "The Humber" which was Humberside and there is an area now called "East Yorkshire". For those wanting details of the true Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Ridings Society has all the facts!

I particularly like the declaration for all Yorkshire people -

"I, (your name), being a resident of the [West/North/East] Riding of Yorkshire [or City of York] declare;that Yorkshire is three Ridings and the City of York, with these Boundaries of 1124 years standing;that the address of all places in these Ridings is Yorkshire;that all persons born therein or resident therein and loyal to the Ridings are Yorkshire-men and women;that any person or corporate body which deliberately ignores or denies the aforementioned shall forfeit all claim to Yorkshire status.

The Society is an organisation all good folk of Yorkshire should consider joining. In 19 years time, in 2024, Yorkshire will be 900 years old! Something well worth celebrating! Let's celebrate the real Yorkshire and not a hacked about one.
