A Local Labour Boob!

Down in Portsmouth, a town in which I have three hundred years and more of genealogical connections going back from 1880 to the 1500s, a Labour candidate that could have been, is sitting on the sidelines because of a mix-up by his party.

Andrew Silvester, who lost his seat in Paulsgrove last year, was due to stand for the party for the Drayton and Farlington seat on September 1. But a fax from regional party headquarters to prove he was an official Labour candidate did not come through in time – meaning he cannot take part in the poll. Although the officials at Labour's regional HQ in Reading say they faxed the documents through, they did not appear at the other end. Nobody bothered to check the application had been received – and the discovery was only made at 4pm on Thursday as the deadline for nominations passed. Mr Silvester's campaign manager, former Labour councillor John McIntyre, said: 'We have been coming third in that ward forever, but we apologise to the Labour party members in that area because they will not have a Labour candidate to vote for.'

Well, well!! This now gives the voters of Drayton & Farlington an opportunity to assess the English Democrats. Three candidates are to contest the vacant ward by-election. They are David Knight (English Democrats Putting England First), Stephen Wemyss (The Conservative Party) and Patrick Whittle (Liberal Democrats).

Labour won't be coming third this time, but given a chance the English Democrats could come first, thereby setting Portsmouth alight with fresh ideas and a new direction.

New Labour is fast spinning itself nationally into Faded & Jaded Labour! The English Democrats offer the people of England a fresh start by putting them first!
