Christian Fundamentalists?

From Jerry Falwell's lips! "I had a student ask me, "Could the savior you believe in save Osama bin Laden?" Of course, we know the blood of Jesus Christ can save him, and then he must be executed." And this rich vein! "We visit prisoners on death row, and some of them are saved, but we believe their sentences should be carried out because they have a debt to society." Jerry Falwell's view on state killing! Doesn't sound very Christian does it? These views are peddled around the USA in total defiance of the Gospel and it is little wonder there is hatred, revenge, envy, mistrust, and fear in the world today!

Understanding the fundamentals of anything is to appreciate the deep-rooted basic nature of the subject in hand. It is certainly not a perverted (literally meaning "turned through") knowledge of a subject. By describing campaigning zealots, who attach to themselves a veneer of Christian doctrines, as "fundamentalists" gives them a status which belittles the true message of Faith, Hope, and Charity.

Jerry Falwell is a man with a benign image but has a fairly crude message. This is the man who thought the Teletubbies could corrupt minors! Falwell is always on fine form when attacking militant Islam. His views are that the disaster of 9/11 was something that "God gave to the US because it is what we deserve". This was said to the Christian Broadcasting Network's "700 Club" soon after the terrible event. "God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve," he continued to prattle!

Falwell has continued to blame all manner of "enemies" by saying that liberal civil liberties groups, feminists, homosexuals and abortion rights supporters bear partial responsibility for the 9/11 terrorist attacks because their actions have turned God's anger against America.

What I never cease to wonder about these people is that they never think that they may be the problem! "Born-again" Christians think they have a ticket to Heaven, they've paid their dues so where are the best seats in the arena! Doesn't matter what garbage they spout in the meantime, who they offend, who they make cry! No, they're born again!!!!

Christian Life is based on Faith, Hope, and Charity. Charity (meaning love with physical support/aid attached) is the greatest of all. For many of these zealots Charity takes a back seat. As for Hope, well that would be too weak! After all, they know God's will, He helped to bomb America!

If I were a Muslim, I may well begin a paranoia about the "Christian Right" and develop a case for pre-emptive strikes! Much of the Gospel is lost on Falwell!

John 16 tells us this - "You will be expelled from the synagogues, and the time will come when those who kill you will think that by doing this they are serving God. People will do these things to you because they have not known either the Father or me. But I have told you this, so that when the time comes for them to do these things, you will remember what I told you. "I did not tell you these things at the beginning, for I was with you." "

Faith is the bedrock, Hope is the mainstay, and Charity is the heart of Christian Life!
