Mugabe 'ready to face fresh vote'

I think Robert Mugabe and those around him have a severe medical problem that needs urgent attention. Their brains apparently aren't responding properly to what their eyes are seeing. It must be a terrible affliction. Mugabe sees votes piling up with Morgan Tsvangirai's name showing the "X" but his brain is telling him that they are his votes! Very disturbing. He'll be walking up and down his palatial abode, not knowing who is who. Best call it a day, I'd say.

But then his henchmen continue to prattle on about "not giving in", etc. Deputy Information Minister Bright Matonga said if results from Saturday's election showed a second round was necessary, Mr Mugabe would stand. Now come on, Bright, is that really so bright? Maybe Silly Matonga might be a better name, or Devious Matonga, but bright he's not!

"President Mugabe is going to fight to the last, and he's not giving up, he's not going anywhere, he hasn't lost the election," says the informative Information Minister. Well, if that's the case, he's stoking up trouble. The world now knows without a shadow of a doubt what these twisted tyrants are up to. The longer they keep up this pretence, the more likely they will end up as lion meat!

I think it's best they check into hospital for those lobotomy operations!

Let me answer you obliquely. During the one month transition in 1980 when there was a Governor in Harare, this story did the rounds.

One of the senior British officals asked RGM how many seats he would win. He said 53. The official thought he was being spurious and asked condescendingly, Why do you say that Mr Mugabe - who not 50 or 55. And RGM answered, Because I have infrastructure in 53 constituencies.

At the point the penny dropped and the officials realised they were dealing with a professional. RGM is a consummate politician. He is the incumbent. He believes what he says. Don't confuse your confusion with his.

If you want to be his opponent or to help people who are challenging him, take him seriously. Very seriously. Never underestimate him.

And I don't underestimate him! After all, he's managed to outwit a whole host of others, including Jack Straw!

My points are sometimes made in a way to show the futility and brutality of it all. Surely Zimbaweans deserve just as much as any other people?
