Sir Ian Blair - You're Fired!

The death of Jean Charles de Menezes, the young Brazilian shot by police on a London tube train, is indeed proving a tragedy. Leaked documents from the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) suggest that the Metropolitan Police have been rather lax in their version of events and appallingly slack in their policing methods. We will have to wait for the IPCC to conclude their deliberations but this evidence flies in the face of what Sir Ian Blair, the Police Commissioner, said happened at the time. Either he decided to spin the facts or he was just making it up as he went along. He certainly was not told the real facts and didn't tell us either!

The problem here is mind-numbingly awful! A man is killed because the police, in a jumpy reaction to terrible events, appear not to have proper procedures in place.

Here is the scenario!

1. Police have block of flats under surveiilance. They think they have identified "terrorists".
2. They don't seem to know who really lives in ALL the flats.
3. A young man leaves flats, officer reacts (but then has a pee so can't take video evidence!).
4. Same young man walks normally to bus stop to take bus to Stockwell Tube Station.
5. He walks normally into the station, picks up a free paper, and gets on train.
6. Officers then pump seven bullets into him and he is DEAD!

What are we to make of all this? So far, the police communication of "evidence", from the first officer through to the "shooters" appears to be a version of Chinese Whispers! What we all want to know is what sort of systems are in place to keep our streets safe? They appear disastrously defective! The officer having the pee will surely have a lot on his mind! His description of Menezes was very seriously wrong. Another troubling matter is the information given to the press by police officers in the heat of the moment. In this case, it all seems to be wrong. Menezes was doomed from the moment he left the flat!

Sir Ian Blair will come under pressure. Forget any questions at length. Do as Donald Trump or Alan Sugar would say "Ian Blair. You're Fired!"
